DrupalCon, something we’re looking forward to every single year! Not a coincidence that we’re proud to be a Diamond Sponsor for the third time in a row. Again, a digital version of the event of course. But for everything, there’s a solution! That’s why we’re extremely enthusiastic to also support DrupalCamp Belgium this year. Together we’re organizing a physical Belgian version of DrupalCon. Because let’s face it, getting together in real life is just that little bit more exciting!

We’re already looking forward to listening about what’s going on in the community, learning a lot from our peers, and connecting with clients, partners, and other Drupal enthusiasts.

Just like other years, we’re sharing our knowledge in the marketing and tech tracks. Join us for a session? We’ve listed them below:

  • Who: Toon De Geest
  • What: To know where you are going you sometimes have to look into the past.
We look at the timeline, and how content editing evolved, and its pros and cons.
Then we have a look into the future and the role of Layout Builder.
We'll show demos on D9 with paragraphs (how it was done in the past) and a live demo with Layout builder, how it's done in the open source Rocketship distribution (see d.o.)
  • When: Monday, 4 October 2021 | 14:00 - 14:20 UTC
  • Where: Hopin - Room 2
  • Who: Inez Declercq
  • What: You only have 5 seconds to leave a good impression through your website, make it count! Your website is the first touchpoint between your company and your customer, it should have a maximum impact.
We’ll go over the techniques in detail I applied to improve UX on sites for our customers but also on the Editorial experience built with the Drupal module “layout builder”.
We’ll also cover the effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction to measure your success.
After this session, you’ll have an idea of how to set this up for yourself and what the common pitfalls are.
  • When: Monday, 4 October 2021 | 14:00 - 14:20 UTC
  • Where: Hopin - Room 5
  • Who: Nick Veenhof
  • What: Personalization is a hot topic, but in the era of consent, privacy, and GDPR it may seem it is no longer acceptable to do any form of personalization. Personalization doesn't necessarily have to be this evil non-transparent tracker without any advantage to you as an end-user.
Personalization is a proven easy of increasing engagement when done right. The user feels understood, it leads to higher conversion but it has to be done in all trust and consent. In recent years many software companies were created to deliver these highly contextualized experiences using personalization but none of them really delivered the necessary trust so that you could use the technology in the same way you are using Drupal.
In the landscape of personalization there is a new open source player in town and this is Apache Unomi & N8N as integration hub.
I will interactively explain, by means of exercises, how Drupal, Mautic, Apache Unomi & N8N can be seen as a Digital Experience Platform without lock-in, without handing over your data to a company with other interests in this data.
The workshop will delve technically deeper into what Apache Unomi is, how it can be used and how personalized experiences can be delivered in a way, compliant with the GDPR rulings and with respect to users' trust.
  • When: Tuesday, 5 October 2021 | 07:00- 07:45 UTC
  • Where: Hopin - Room 6
  • Who: Mattias Michaux
  • What: At Dropsolid we are building a hosting platform that is capable of managing a lot of environments and the infrastructure around it.
What started as a simple bash script to copy a site to a server evolved into a complete ecosystem with Drupal and Ansible at its core.
In this session I will give a technical overview on how we managed to make Drupal and Ansible work together, how and why they are a good (but not perfect) fit, how to tackle issues like SSOT and reproducible environments for testing, how we scale migrations, …
This session won't be a sales talk or a feature comparison to other solutions but will focus on the technical aspects and challenges encountered during the evolution of the platform.
This session is a continuation of last year's session, with a lot of new information about migrations and maintaining the overview.
  • When: Tuesday, 5 October 2021 | 09:00 - 09:45 UTC
  • Where: Hopin - Room 3
  • Who: Nick Veenhof & Finn Lewis
  • What: This panel discussion will explore some of the common challenges that Drupal distributions face and how each Distribution addresses the same issue in different ways. Since DrupalCon Europe 2020 we have had a number of meet-ups where distribution maintainers have been sharing their progress on various issues as well as highlighting common challenges. We have all learned plenty from each other already but never run short on topics to explore, from managing configuration updates, front-end theme approaches, headless strategies to the governance of the contributor community. We will discuss some of the key learning from the year and look ahead to how Drupal core can better support Drupal distributions in the future.
  • When: Thursday, 7 October 2021 | 07:00 - 07:45 UTC
  • Where: Hopin - Room 6
  • Who: Nick Veenhof & Leen Penders
  • What: DXP is more than a buzzword. With an open approach, your Digital Experience Platform can connect your Marketing and Development teams to co-create and deliver the best digital experiences for any stakeholder.
Nick (CTO) and Leen (CMO) talk about the reasons to believe in an open DXP, each from their own experiences and background. They will share best practices, successes, and common mistakes in building personalized customer journeys across multiple digital channels. And why the buy-in of your marketing/technical peers is essential to your success.
Join us for an interactive session on building personal, consistent, and maintainable digital experiences with respect for your visitors' privacy. What’s your biggest challenge?
  • When: Thursday, 7 October 2021 | 08:00 - 08:45 UTC
  • Where: Hopin - Room 1
  • Who: Wesley De Vrient & Frederik Wouters
  • What: We'll show how we've built the content editing experience which is available in the Open Source Drupal 9 Rocketship Distribution. See the pictures at https://www.drupal.org/project/dropsolid_rocketship.
This distribution uses all kinds of Layout Builder contributed modules such as Layout Builder Asymmetric Translations, Layout Builder Extra Templates, Layout Builder Lock, Layout Builder Modal, Layout Builder Operation Link, Layout Builder Restrictions & Layout Builder Restrictions by role, and more.
All of these modules are combined together to create a wonderful but ambitious editing experience where paragraphs are no longer needed to support complex use cases while maintaining a certain control over the look and feel. This power of paragraphs is kept, but not using it simplifies quite a lot from an entity point of view.
We'll explain how we came to this mix of modules, the challenges we had and have, and how we tweaked the interface to what it is now.
Next to that, we'll explain where we still want to go and how you can use this distribution for your clients and address the ever-growing need for more "WYSIWYG" demand while keeping the structure in the content to power ambitious & future proof digital ecosystems.
  • When: Thursday, 7 October 2021 | 08:00 - 08:45 UTC
  • Where: Hopin - Room 3
